The UN World Tourism Organization has recognized the village of Bekhovo as one of the best in the world. The village of Bekhovo in the Tula region became one of the winners of the international competition of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).
The UNWTO Best Tourism Villages international competition was announced at the beginning of summer, with a total of 75 countries participating. Out of 170 applications, a village in the Tula region became the only winner not only from Russia, but also from all the post-Soviet countries.
The competition is a new project of the organization, which was launched in order to develop and popularize rural tourism. UNWTO will oversee, support and promote the victorious villages.
Bekhovo is a small settlement in the Tula region. It is part of the national reserve named after the Russian painter Vasily Polenov. The village is located on the high bank of the Oka. The main attraction of the village today is the operating Church of the Life-Giving Holy Trinity, built according to the design of Polenov himself back in 1904-1906.
Bekhovo is a place that inspired landscape painters and poets, it contains the spirit of history and the original architecture of the Russian style of the early 20th century. These places have a special atmosphere, in which you definitely need to find yourself in order to understand what enigmatic Russian soul is.
