Saint-Petersburg
St. Petersburg is located in the North-West of Russia. 300 years ago Peter the Great, the first Russian Emperor, founded it as the new capital of the Russian Empire. The city remained the capital of Russia for over 200 years and right now it is the second largest metropolis in the country.
St. Petersburg is often called the Northern capital of Russia, the Palmyra of the North, or the Northern Venice. The city is situated on 42 islands that are washed by the waters of 90 rivers, arms of the Neva River, and channels. There are over 300 bridges in St. Petersburg that are an inseparable part of the city view.
