As many people think the Godunov Restaurant has a special place among restaurants offering Russian cuisine.  This is a real Russian restaurant both in respect of its interiors and cuisine housed in XVII century chambers opposite the Bolshoi Theatre. Under the arch of the chamber there are tables made of oak-wood and heavy tables with high carved chair backs.  The walls of the restaurant are decorated with wall paintings and wall lights are designed to look like candlesticks with light candles in them.  The menu of the restaurant includes a vast variety of dishes cooked by old Russian recipes.   Every evening the guests of the restaurant can enjoy Russian folk songs, dancing, and gypsy performances.

Opened in October 2006 the Griboedov restaurant with its glass paintings, unusual furniture, oak panels, and cut glass chandeliers bring alive the remarkable atmosphere of the XIX century.  A restaurant under the name Griboedov is depicted in the Master and Margarita novel.  But you should not expect to find anything fantastic or threatening in the menu: the cooking in the restaurant is very good.

The luxurious Armenian restaurant is well known for its Eastern grandiosity.  The interiors of the restaurant are designed in Armenian style: the dining halls are decorated with tuff and other minerals.  Various hand-made figures, paintings, copper accessories depicting iconographic scenes, and a fish tank create an atmosphere of Eastern civilization.  The menu of the Noah’s Arch restaurant includes over 120 items many of which are cooked by old Armenian recipes.

THE RED SQUARE

The Red Square restaurant in Moscow is housed in the building of the State Historical Museum.  The restaurant offers many unique recipes such as salmon with bacon and Nesselrode desert pudding named after Russian minister of foreign affairs (1816-1856) who was a "great gastronomist”. The restaurant also offers Khvanchkara  - great wine that was the favorite of Stalin.

The Sir restaurant conveniently situated in the very centre of Moscow near the Triumphal Arch and the Hill of Respectful Salutation is designed in the style of old Russian mansions.  In the dining halls there are furniture made of dark wood, snow-white table cloths, and lamps with matt light. The walls of the restaurant are decorated with antiquarian portraits and paintings.  The restaurant offers two dining halls for 30 and 80 seats, VIP dining hall and a summer terrace.  The restaurant’s menu includes traditional Russian dishes cooked by recipes from old cookery books.  The guests of the restaurant have an opportunity to enjoy superb beer made at the restaurant’s own brewery.  In the evenings there are live classic music concerts and Russian romantic songs. 

TURANDOT

The Turandot restaurant is situated next to the Pushkin restaurant.  The interiors are designed in the baroque style: one can see a two-level domed space.  There is a massive chandelier made of Malaysian cut glass with original light technology used in Russia for the first time, hanging from under the dome.   The idea of the interior can be described as the Chinese room of the Hermitage.  Braid gold decorations, antiquarian clock, columns, goblins, and Venetian glass all bear traces of Chinese themes.  There are three dining halls in the restaurant: the main dining hall on the ground floor with a rotating stage with the eaglewood tree and the bird of paradise, a harp and a musical score standing on it, the main dining hall of the first floor and the foyer on the second level (Renaissance interior).   There are four dining halls with capacity from 4 to 40 seats on each level. 

THE YAR (THE GILL)

The legendary Yar restaurant established in 1826 thoroughly preserves the traditions of Russian hospitality and high quality services.  This was the favourite restaurant of the Royal family and the cream of Russian society.  The interior of the Yar restaurant is decorated with antiquarian wall paintings.  The high quality of food and services were noted by Russian Government and the President who included the Yar restaurant in the list of restaurants recommended to government delegations.
