Odessa
Odessa stands a like splendor of precious pearl in the south of Ukraine, the city which fascination attracts all the guests. This town is both the “sea gate” and the "capital of sense of humor" of Ukraine. All those who ever visited it admired the «South Palmyra». The people of Odessa confirm: “Odessa is the best city in the world”. Odessa is only 200 years young. There was a “golden gate” of Odessa, the peak of its development and riches. These times are connected with the name of one of the first founders of the city, Duke de Richelieu. It was he, who laid the foundation of a unique and unrepeatable city-port, known throughout the world; the southern ocean gates opened generously and gladly, and hospitably invited traders from all over the world. Odessa Opera and Ballet Theater one of the most beautiful in Europe is kind of a “calling card” of the city. Opera and Ballet Theatre – was designed in the 1880 by Viennese architects Felner & Gelmer in the Habsburg Baroque, with a number of Italian Renaissance features. The Odessa opera theater is regarded as one of the most beautiful in all of Europe. Many of the world’s most famous artists appeared on its stage.Potyomkin’s Staircase - behind the Odessa Theater of Opera and Ballet lie these famous stairs, 1500 of them to be exact. Built by architect F. Boffo, the stairs were completed in 1841, after five years of construction. Known as the “parade exit to the sea”, this site is a “must see” for all who visit Odessa. Also you can see the famous monument to Duke Emmanuel de Richelieu there. He was devotedly serving Russian but rose in France, decided to build the new city that would be even more beautiful than Paris.
Deribasovskaya Street – is the very heart of Odessa. What lends Deribasovskaya its unique character is magnificent architecture; crowds of people leisurely sitting on terraces of numerous cafes and restaurants, perfect cobblestones, no vehicle traffic and big shady linden trees.
Privoz – is one of the biggest farmers’ markets in the world and rivals those in Istanbul and Mexico City. Here is everything that is edible and in season in the CIS and lots more.
